Some good advices to get rid of reports generation task - Guys I don't use them all the time :) - :
1 - Pretend that you have not seen the user request. If he/she forgot it or didn't keep nagging, then for sure it is not a MUST TO HAVE report, rather it is a NICE TO HAVE report.
2- Keep asking for justifications ,e-mails and depratment head's approval. Eventually, the user find it a not worthed adventure.
3- Of course, showing off that you are too busy, will work magic some times, just like in any other tasks !
4- Give the impression that reports don't always give up-to-date data due too some technical problems, thus it will cause some serious data inconsistencies.
5- ITS and Francis in particular isn't around, and it is really difficult to do more reports since they are the EXPERTS.
6- Tell the users that the Reports are causing system slowness.
7- Some times actually it is a one time query and not a report. Make sure of that, since all of our users just LOVE the term report. (I heard some of the users refering the term report to a screen saver screen)
8- Merge the requests as much as you can.
9- Show how much time and efforts it took to develop a report for the user.
10- Submit your resignation letter to your boss.
